In addition to numerous other criteria & recommendations, we have summarised the most important minimum standards for cross-country skiing & ski touring regions at Cross Country Ski Holidays.
Standards in the cross-country skiing regions
- The region's network of cross-country ski trails comprises at least 25 km of classic parallel tracks and skating trails, including full signposting.
- At least 3 km of the trails are equipped with an artificial snow system. Alternatively, there is a high-altitude trail (at least 3 km at over 1,000 m above sea level).
- Complete signposting along the trails, with signposts, kilometre markers and overview maps.
- At least one cross-country skiing school (or ski school with cross-country skiing instructor) and a hire shop for cross-country skiing equipment in the region.
- Trail maintenance is guaranteed if there is enough snow.
- At least one service centre for waxing and sharpening cross-country skis (e.g. sports shop) in the region.
- The cross-country ski trail network is presented in digital form on the regional website.
- Exemplary infrastructure along the trails (WC, car parks, etc.)
- Detailed information on cross-country skiing and winter sports away from the ski slopes on the regional website.
Standards in the ski touring regions
- At least 5 signposted and well-described tour suggestions (incl. walking time, altitude, level of difficulty, map and possibly GPS data)
- At least 1 of these in a secured ski area or in safe terrain (e.g. ski routes, secured paths, etc.)
- Guided ski tours with trained mountain guides (as individual tours or in groups)
- Corresponding information documents free of charge for guests
- Ski touring equipment hire
