Activities in nature, a fantastic winter landscape and plenty of culinary delights are on the agenda on your winter holiday in Carinthia. Leading even into Italy, an extensive network of cross-country ski tracks stretches around the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region. Biathletes get also what their heart desires. A bit further west you experience the Lesachtal Valley, Europe’s most natural valley. Great emphasis is put on custom and tradition here. At Lake Weissensee, you can go cross-country skiing but you can also enjoy ice skating there. Lake Weissensee, stretching across an area of 6.5 km², is Europe’s largest, continuously frozen and groomed sheet of natural ice and is perfect for a wide range of ice sports.
Ski tours can be found mainly in the ski touring paradise Lesachtal Valley or in Kötschach-Mauthen. The latter is also a spa town with a healthy climate and offers perfect conditions for ski touring. The vast snow-covered alpine meadows, the rugged peaks and the view to the Carnic Alps and Gailtal Valley Alps turn this into worthwhile ski mountaineering destinations.
